Expert Automotive Trim Case Study

The Automotive Supply Chain Competitiveness Initiative (ASCCI) is a national non-profit collaborative initiative between the South African automotive industry, government, and labour. The WCM programme was one of ASCCI’s largest projects and set out to deliver WCM interventions at suppliers over a three-year period.  Expert Automotive Trim, a B-BBEE Level 1 manufacturer, specialising in interior trim components was a WCM beneficiary.

Naicker'sToolmakers & Metal Pressing

Targeting low levels of transformation in the South African automotive manufacturing sector, ASCCI’s Black Supplier Development Programme (BSDP) is supporting the development of eight Black-owned automotive manufacturers to sustainably meet global automotive component manufacturing requirements. The Naicker’s Toolmakers project is an 18-month mentorship program facilitated by ASCCI, sponsored by Toyota South Africa Motors (Pty) Ltd (TSAM), and in collaboration with Supreme Spring.

Local OEMs and suppliers have worked hard, together with ASCCI, to drive localisation. We are pleased to report a meaningful localisation success, enabled by the dti’s support to ASCCI. We have also learnt some important lessons along the way which we will use to inform future projects as we endeavour to deliver greater depth and scale of localisation as we move forward.
